Well, it finally happened. My beautiful red bud tree, the "signature tree" at the farm, which looks like this in the spring:

It's been leaning more and more every year and gravity finally caught up with it. It's funny, i thought the branch on the right would have been the first to go. It's gotten low enough that i smack my head on a regular basis when working dogs in that area. Wonder how long it will be before it gives up and breaks off too? The sheep are sure enjoying stripping the leaves off!

"Oh, no!" indeed! :-( We need an arborist to tell us how to save the rest of the tree. Shoofly wouldn't be the same without the redbud tree. :-(

Ditto on the oh no! How about taking a landscaping timber or some other sort of post and wedging it under the remaining half to give it support. Redbuds are one of my favorite trees, and I'd hate to see that one gone....
This is definately a tragedy. Poor Redbud. Surely we can save the other half??? I don't know a thing about trees though. That redbud tree is also MY sign that spring is here!
I expect the other half is pretty far gone too and will come down in the next few months. I'll just have to put a new one in. Fortunately, there are lots of other ones growing around the farm. They actually line most of the fence. That one was just so spectacular, and they don't usually get so big! I'll sure miss it.
I vote for putting in a new one, too! You've gotta have a red bud. This year we lost our little peach tree - it looked like it was bearing fruit beautifully, and then it fell over in a windstorm a few weeks ago. It was so sad to see the kids try to prop it up - they got out their little shovels and pulled it back and tried to put the dirt back in, in front of it. But it had no roots. There's an object lesson in there, hmm, I guess I missed my chance there! Anyway, RIP little tree . . .
